From process engineering
to people engineering

When I was in school, teaching and tutoring were not in my plans. I wanted to be an engineer. So I studied chemical engineering at Lehigh University and graduated into a job as a process engineer at W. L. Gore, making materials that end up in medical implants and spacecraft. But the best part of my week was always the same: explaining a project I was working on to a colleague or friend — until they could finally see what I could see.

Ten years and over 5000 hours later, tutoring is no longer the thing I do on the side. It's the thing I'm best at: taking a student who thinks they're "not a math person" and lifting the fog from around their head. Getting them to the point where they get it — and then watching them chase that feeling themselves.

I teach the way an engineer thinks: break the problem down, find the weak link, build from there. The free-body diagram isn't just homework busywork; it's a new way of visualizing the world. My students build conceptual understanding and a whole new language: math. And that learning pays off long after the exam.

Schooling and professional credentials, since you're here: Lehigh University, B.S. in Chemical Engineering & Business (Honors), and a Master of Engineering in Technical Entrepreneurship. Process engineer at W. L. Gore & Associates — medical, aerospace, and automotive materials.

"Justin has been an incredible support for my son this year in both AP Physics and AP Calculus. From the very beginning, he built a strong connection that made learning feel approachable and even enjoyable... It’s rare to find someone who can teach at such a high level while still being so personable and encouraging"

"Physics was the one class my daughter was struggling in. Since Justin began tutoring my daughter, she’s developed a deeper interest in and understanding of physics... He’s really good at digging and asking questions to find out exactly where the disconnect or foggy area is- even when my daughter might not know what questions to ask... He never makes her feel embarrassed or on the spot... As a result, my daughter is so confident and stress-free about physics now, it’s just wonderful. The last exam she took, she scored 100%, so we couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you, Justin!"

"If you are struggling with physics, you need to work with Justin who simplifies all the heavy material so that it's easy to understand... So incredibly grateful for the help! 5/5 stars."
